Captain Jay Charters Has a Fishing Trip for Everyone

Much of this fishing is done in the Gulf Stream, which wobbles offshore of Marathon anywhere from 10 to 30 miles.  Some very large fish make these reefs their permanent home and others are seasonal. You can find great fishing a few miles offshore or you can venture out 50 or 60 miles to catch some real big fish.

People travel from all over the world to snorkel in the Florida Keys. No snorkeling destination in the region is more famous than Marathon’s own Sombrero Reef, and The 30 acre reef is thriving, and filled with incredible coral formations and massive schools of neon-colored tropical fish.  The entire area is protected, large grouper and snapper thrive in the deep, while stingrays take wing overhead as though flying through the current.

Tarpon Fishing 

We fish the bridges of the Florida keys for these beautiful acrobatic fish. We use live bait and it’s one of the most exciting species to target in the Florida keys 

This trip we will fish the reef for great eating yellowtail, mangrove snappers also catching grouper mutton snappers. Also we can hit the wreck for larger species kingfish, mutton snapper,grouper.  We take you out to coral patches that are scattered about the Florida keys. These locations can be just off the island in 20 feet of water or up to 100 feet of water. 

In the Keys we go offshore in deep water where sunken ships have wrecked and created artificial reefs. These are in deep water between 100’ and 400’. When fishing a wreck there are two options: drifting or anchoring. Current and wind conditions will determine which is best for your adventure.
